Diana Romer has a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from The University of British Columbia.
As a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the
British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors, Diana is guided by the Code of Ethics and consults with a clinical supervisor on a regular basis. With over 10 years experience working with adults and adolescents as a social worker, educator, and counsellor, Diana participates in ongoing professional development.
Diana works from a Humanistic perspective, integrating psychodynamic and experiential approaches. Through a combination of talk therapy, body awareness, and spiritual exploration, Diana brings clients to a deeper awareness of self. By recognizing the meaning of past experience and the impact on present functioning, clients are able to clear away old beliefs and patterns that get in the way of success, happiness, and a feeling of wholeness.
Diana has helped clients to successfully overcome anxiety and depression, symptoms resulting from grief and loss, abuse and trauma. She works with individuals, families, and groups from diverse cultural backgrounds. By listening with full attention and empathy, Diana creates a safe and caring environment in which clients can grow.
Sometimes, when people find themselves stuck in distressing emotions, issues cannot be resolved. As a Certified EMDR Practitioner, Diana can help people process these troubling memories and emotions with the therapeutic technique, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). EMDR can bring quick and lasting relief for most types of emotional distress.
Diana lives with her partner and the youngest of her 3 children on beautiful Bowen Island. As well as being an avid reader and small time gardener, Diana's free time is filled up quickly with running, bike riding, water and snow sports (depending on the season) and whenever possible relaxing in the sun.
