Hi there, I'm Diana
I'm so glad that you found your way here. I have been in private practice for over 15 years and previously worked in the Mental Health field for many years. I have a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from UBC, and am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
Most people come to therapy looking for something more than what they have now...more love, more acceptance, more happiness, more peace. When we become aware that our old systems are no longer serving us, counselling can help to learn new ways of being in the world...in moving beyond the stagnant or broken parts of our lives.
I offer a safe and nurturing space, within which to explore new ways to manage the stressors and worries and fears that have created barriers in relationships and for your personal well-being. The gentle yet powerful practices of mindfulness and somatic (body) awareness are an important part of learning to 'self-regulate' - or manage intrusive and negative thoughts and feelings. While learning to stay in the present moment, rather than giving in to the old habits of overwhelm or reactivity, we feel more grounded, and are better able to manage difficult relational triggers. And as we build confidence in our abilities, we can approach the tender protected places of recent or historical trauma, and begin to heal: shifting beliefs and developing a more integrated and accepting sense of self.
My post-graduate training includes many trainings relevant to understanding and treating anxiety, depression, relationships, communication, substance abuse, and addiction including:
Imago Couples Therapy: "a form of relationship and couples therapy that focuses on transforming conflict into healing and growth through relational connection"
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: a powerful practice for working with difficult emotions and interpersonal relationships
EMDR - (I am not practicing EMDR virtually)
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Level One: SP is a body oriented, experiential approach developed specifically to heal from the ravages of trauma and developmental and relational breaches. By becoming aware of how the body holds the impact of the unresolved trauma, clients can learn to regulate their responses and mindfully integrate their experiences. We "draw on the intelligence of the body to move on from the past and reorganize consciousness at a higher level." (Pat Ogden)

I live on beautiful Bowen Island with my husband and our puppy, Jake. As well as being an avid reader and gardener, my free time is filled up quickly with boating, hiking, bike riding, knitting, painting, travelling and ....playing with our grandbabies.
